Rocky Mountain Preview
For the first time since 2010, the Rocky Mountain Division will have a defending PIHA Pro champion in their ranks. The Denver Demon Dogs, led by Finals MVP Jake Townsend, shocked the PIHA landscape by upsetting the 5-time defending champion Suffolk Sting in 7 games last May. They are looking to stand again as champions in March, and they have the squad to start a dynasty run of their own.
Next, we will mention the changes in the pro division. The Parker Prowlers are now the Parker Royals for the 2023-2024 season and are looking to avenge a Division Semifinal loss. They open up their campaign on 10/8 against the defending champion Demon Dogs. The Blizzard have returned to the Rocky Mountain Division to play Pro for the first time since 2010-2011, and they are looking to make an immediate impact. Mile High opens up their season against the Lakewood Fire on 10/15 in Colorado Springs.
The Lakewood Fire have a re-tooled squad for the season, and they are looking to take the next step and earn their first Founders Cup Final birth since they were the Littleton Fire in 2006.
Last season, the Colorado Springs Thunder missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2006-2007 season, and they are looking to get back into contention with a much improved squad. They open the 2023-2024 campaign at home this upcoming Saturday night against the Parker Royals in Colorado Springs.
For the semipro division, the entire division looks wide open. With the Tugboats dropping out of the division, both Fire semipro teams are the early season favorites, but the rest of the division is looking to knock them off to earn their places in PIHA finals in March. The Cherry Creek Demon Dogs and Mile High Frost are replacing the Tugboats and Greeley Diesel in the division.
Finally, the Minor League has expanded from 3 teams to 5 teams, with the Sloan's Lake Tugboats and Golden Fire joining the division. This will look to be a fun and competitive division, as the teams are looking at knocking off the Monument Thunder, who was last season's champion.
