Rocky Mountain Division Adds The PIHA Minor - FAQ

by CJ Yoder

The PIHA is excited to announce that the Rocky Mountain Division will be adding a Minor League for the 2022-2023 season! The Rocky Mountain Division will be the third division in the League, as the PIHA had a successful start to the Minor League in the Eastern Division and the Hawaii Division.

Here is a FAQ for people wanting more information about the Minor League in the Rocky Mountain Division.

1) What is the Minor League?

The Minor League is set up for individuals who are "rec level" players that would like to compete against other teams from across the state. These players either can't commit to a full PIHA season, or they do not yet have the skill level to play semipro.

2) What is the age range for Minor?

Same as PIHA, players become eligible as soon as they turn 16.

3) How many games, and against who?

Each team plays 10 games in the regular season against teams from the same division. They will then play a playoff to determine the Division Champion.

4) When/where do you play?

Either on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Games will be at Xfinity Arena in Colorado Springs, Parker Fieldhouse in Parker, or Foothills Fieldhouse in Lakewood. You will have home games based on your home rink.

5) What's the game format?

Same as the rest of the Division--Each team plays two games back-to-back with a 12-minute stop clock. The same PIHA rules apply.

6) When does the season run?

Games begin after October 28th, 2022. Playoffs in February or March, location TBD.

7) What is the cost?

The cost will be confirmed once the amount of teams is confirmed. Each player should expect to pay $235, which includes 10 games, playoffs, and the estimated cost of one jersey.

8) Do I have to be on a team to play Minor, or can I sign up as an individual?

Like the rest of the PIHA, registration occurs as a team. If you are a Free Agent, email the Minor League Coordinator, and he will connect you to organizations looking for teams.

9) Who do I contact for more Minor Division info?

Joe Oria will be the Minor League Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Division. You can email him here.
