Playoff Seeding Heats Up in the Rockies

The Rocky Mountain Division has been interesting in both the pro and semipro divisions.

In the pro division, the Demon Dogs (9-2-1, 26 points) hold the #1 spot and are in good position to secure that seed with 8 games to go. For the rest, split series has made it difficult for most teams to pull away in the effort to secure home-rink advantage. A split series in Parker between the Prowlers (8-8-2, 25 points) and Fire (6-6, 17 points) has tightened that race for the #2 seed. The Fire have a whopping 6 games in hand over the Prowlers, but they will need to solve their game one blues if they are going to make up ground. The Thunder  (5-8-1, 16 points) could go on a run and disturb the playoff positioning as well.

In the semipro division, the Arvada Fire currently lead for the #1 seed after their Sunday night sweep of Greeley, but the Sloans Lake Tugboats are two points behind the Fire with four games in hand. Front Range Vikings are in the third position with the Littleton Fire behind them in 4th with two games in hand and 4 points to make up. As of today, one point separates the 5th seed Aurora Prowlers and 7th place Black Forest Thunder. Greeley is tied with the Thunder and has the final playoff spot.

The Rocky Mountain Division’s Minor League opened play on 2/26 in Parker, with all three teams in action. The day was highlighted by an exciting overtime contest between the Pikes Peak Vikings and the Monument Thunder. The Vikings scored twice in the final two minutes to tie the game up at 4, and Monument scored the overtime game winner. The Minor League will return to the Foothills Fieldhouse this upcoming Saturday at 3:30pm to kick off a packed evening of Minor, Semipro, and Pro games until 10pm.
