PIHA Minor Piedmont Festival Returns to Volunteer Park as Snipers Stay Perfect
The Piedmont Division was back in action Saturday at Volunteer Park for its second PIHA Minor League event of the season, featuring the Edge Konixx Snipers, Hendersonville Broadway Blades, and Mavin Puff Puff Passers. Each team played four games in a compressed six-game schedule, marking the final tune-up before the division rapidly moves toward mid-season form. With improved rosters, cleaner execution, and noticeably higher pace than opening weekend, the Snipers emerged as the clear early favorite—while the Blades showed meaningful progress and the Puff Puff Passers continued to battle in every game.
GAME-BY-GAME RECAPS
12:00 PM — Edge Konixx Snipers 4, Hendersonville Broadway Blades 1
Edge opened the day with a statement, controlling puck possession and tempo from the first shift. The Snipers struck early and never trailed, using their team speed to stretch out the Blades’ defensive coverage. Hendersonville generated chances late but were turned away by steady goaltending. A late insurance marker sealed a confident 4–1 win to set the tone for the event.
12:40 PM — Mavin Puff Puff Passers 3, Edge Konixx Snipers 4
The Puff Puff Passers delivered a gritty pushback performance in one of the most competitive games of the day. Mavin twice tied the score, forcing Edge into tighter execution and special-teams reliance. A third-period go-ahead goal proved the difference as the Snipers stayed perfect through two games. Mavin left the rink with renewed confidence despite the narrow defeat.
1:20 PM — Hendersonville Broadway Blades 6, Mavin Puff Puff Passers 4
Hendersonville responded impressively in their second appearance, exploding offensively after a slower opener. The Blades capitalized on transition opportunities and executed at key moments, including a pair of timely strikes to break the game open. Mavin continued to push, keeping the game within reach, but couldn’t close the gap late. The victory marked the Blades’ first win of the day and a much-needed momentum swing.
2:00 PM — Hendersonville Broadway Blades 2, Edge Konixx Snipers 6
The Snipers stayed relentless, jumping out to an early lead and never allowing Hendersonville to settle into their structure. Edge showcased their most complete effort of the afternoon, dominating zone time and converting on high-percentage chances. The Blades found the net twice but were unable to slow the Snipers’ offensive rhythm. With the win, Edge moved to 3–0 and strengthened their hold on the top spot.
2:40 PM — Edge Konixx Snipers 4, Mavin Puff Puff Passers 2
In their third meeting of the season, Edge again dictated pace while Mavin aimed to grind the game into a defensive battle. The Puff Puff Passers kept things tight through most of regulation, but Edge’s depth and finishing touch surfaced in the final minutes. Strong goaltending ensured no late swing, and the Snipers improved to 4–0. Mavin, now winless on the day, continued to compete but searched for offensive consistency.
3:20 PM — Mavin Puff Puff Passers 2, Hendersonville Broadway Blades 6
The Blades closed their afternoon with conviction, matching their earlier six-goal output. Hendersonville generated scoring from multiple lines and controlled the game’s pace from start to finish. Mavin battled but faded late after a demanding schedule and repeated tight contests. The Blades finished the event with a confident split and clear signs of upward momentum.
TEAM PERFORMANCES & STANDOUTS
Edge Konixx Snipers — 4-0-0
The Snipers were the class of the event, sweeping all four games and improving to a perfect 8-0-0 on the season. Their depth, puck management, and transition speed remain the division’s gold standard. Edge received balanced scoring across the lineup, and goaltending stayed steady throughout the day.
Hendersonville Broadway Blades — 2-2-0
A massive step forward for the Blades, who doubled their season win total and showed clear structural improvement. Hendersonville found offense in bunches with back-to-back six-goal performances and proved they can skate with anyone in the division when they dictate tempo. Defensive consistency remains the next hurdle, but the progress was undeniable.
Mavin Puff Puff Passers — 0-4-0
Despite a winless afternoon, Mavin played far more competitively than their record suggests, with two games decided by a single goal. The Puff Puff Passers generated chances but struggled to finish at key moments and protect leads. With continued effort and a tightening defensive approach, they remain capable of turning close games into points.
