PIHA Minor Division Opens 2026-27 Season with Two Northeast Events

The PIHA Minor Division officially gets its 2026-27 season underway this Saturday, September 26, with a major opening weekend in the Northeast Region.

Two separate events will take place simultaneously in New York and New Jersey, putting 18 of the Northeast Region’s 24 Minor Division teams on the floor for their first games of the new season.

At Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage, New York, the Metropolitan and Mid-Atlantic Divisions will meet in the first cross-division festival of the season. Twelve teams will compete across two rinks, with each team scheduled to play four games.

Meanwhile, at Inman Sports Center in New Jersey, all six teams from the Delaware Valley Division will gather for their first in-division event of the season. Each team there will also play four games.

New Teams Make Their Minor Division Debuts

Saturday will be particularly significant for several organizations making their first appearances in the PIHA Minor Division.

The East Coast Rebellion will play its first-ever Minor Division games, as will the Mid Atlantic Mystic Storm and Tri-State Mach1 Dopermen.

The Fusion Blizzard will also make its debut as a Minor Division team, adding another new entry to the Mid-Atlantic field.

The East Coast Capital Snipers are another new team for 2026-27, although much of the roster is made up of players who competed last season with the Empire State Legends Silver team.

The influx of new and reworked teams adds another layer of intrigue to an already deep Northeast Region and should make the opening crossover at Skate Safe America an early measuring stick for both divisions.

Games to Watch at Skate Safe America

With 24 games scheduled across the two rinks, there will be plenty to follow throughout the day.

One of the early matchups to watch will be the veteran heavy Empire State Labeda Legends versus New Jersey Jagaloons, bringing together two teams that should provide an immediate test for one another.

The Labeda Qinetic Legends versus New Jersey Jagaloons matchup is another game worth watching as teams begin to establish themselves in the opening crossover.  The legends were Champions two seasons ago, while the Jagaloons are fresh off a division championship and trip to the Finals.

Later in the day, Suffolk Sting versus Champion Impact should provide another strong inter-division matchup.  The Sting made it nearly to the summit of the league, making it all the way to the league Finals last season, before being swept.

The new-look East Coast Capital Snipers will also be tested against the ISCA Grizzlies, while Champion Impact versus Empire State Labeda Legends rounds out a group of games that should offer an early look at how the Metropolitan and Mid-Atlantic Divisions stack up.

Delaware Valley Division Opens at Inman

At Inman Sports Center, the Delaware Valley Division will begin its season with all six teams competing in one location.

There are several new identities in the division this season.

The New Jersey Assault enter as a new team, although the roster is primarily made up of players from last season’s ISCA Revolt.

The Champion Trojan Pandas are also making their first appearance under that name after rebranding from last season’s Purple Pandas.

Freedom HC, meanwhile, enters the league as a completely new team and will get its first PIHA action Saturday.

Two games in particular stand out on the Delaware Valley schedule.

The Champion Trash Pandas versus Freedom HC matchup will give the new Freedom program an immediate test against an established opponent.

The South Jersey Geese Chasers versus Champion Trash Pandas matchup should also be one of the more interesting games of the day as two familiar division opponents begin their 2026-27 campaigns.

18 Teams Begin the Season

By the end of Saturday, 18 of the Northeast Region’s 24 Minor Division teams will have officially begun their 2026-27 seasons.

The remaining six teams make up the Colonial Division, which will open its season the following weekend at Rockville Sportsplex. That event will also be the lone PIHA appearance at Rockville Sportsplex during the 2026-27 season.

With three of the Northeast Region’s four divisions taking the floor this weekend, Saturday marks the first major weekend of the PIHA Minor season.

For established teams, it is the beginning of another pursuit toward the postseason. For several new organizations, it represents the first chapter of their PIHA Minor Division history.
