New Jersey Assault Runs the Table at Yellow Breeches

NEW CUMBERLAND, PA — Five of the six PIHA Mid-Atlantic Semi-Pro teams descended on Yellow Breeches Sports Center on Saturday, November 7, for the division's second in-division festival of the 2026-27 season.

The New Jersey Assault, Philadelphia Barons, Fusion Blizzard, Pottstown Space Force and SK Marple Gladiators combined for a 10-game afternoon, with each team playing four games. The New Jersey Jagaloons were the lone Mid-Atlantic club not in attendance.

By the end of the day, one team had separated itself from the field.

New Jersey Assault went a perfect 4-0, outscoring its opponents 32-6, including a shutout of Philadelphia and a pair of eight-goal performances against Marple. Fusion Blizzard also had an impressive afternoon, finishing 3-1, while Philadelphia split its four games at 2-2.

Pottstown broke through with a late-afternoon victory over the Barons to finish 1-3, while Marple went winless despite competitive games against Philadelphia and Fusion.

For the Assault, however, Saturday was a statement. New Jersey entered the event at 3-1 and left Yellow Breeches at 7-1, significantly altering the Mid-Atlantic standings as the regular season moves deeper into November.

The 4-3 victory moved Philadelphia to 2-0 on the afternoon.

At the other end, Anthony Gizzi stopped all eight Philadelphia shots, recording the shutout as New Jersey moved to 3-0.

The 7-0 result was particularly impressive considering Philadelphia had scored nine goals while winning its first two games of the day.

Fusion Blizzard 6, SK Marple Gladiators 4

Fusion jumped ahead 4-1 in the first half, but Marple mounted a serious comeback after the break.

The Gladiators scored twice while shorthanded through Corey Kosick, who brought Marple within a goal at 4-3. Dave Cutler later added a power-play goal.

Fusion had enough offense to hold them off.

The 6-4 victory moved Fusion to 2-1.

Then the game completely changed.

New Jersey scored seven unanswered goals in the second half.

The 8-3 comeback completed New Jersey's perfect 4-0 afternoon.

Fusion Blizzard 4, Pottstown Space Force 1

Fusion and Pottstown were tied 1-1 after the opening half, setting up a tight finish to the event.

Daniel Rosenthal scored Fusion's first goal, while Steven Groff answered for Pottstown.

The deadlock remained until Luke Gross scored with 2:10 remaining to put Blizzard ahead.

Pottstown eventually pulled its goaltender in search of the tying goal, and Fusion capitalized with empty-net goals from PJ Breslow and Cody Zajaczkowski in the final 26 seconds.

Zach Orcutt stopped 11 of 12 shots as Fusion closed its afternoon with a 4-1 victory and a 3-1 record.

Individual Standouts

Chris Conner — New Jersey Assault

No player had a bigger afternoon than Conner.

Across four New Jersey victories, Conner scored an incredible 12 goals and added three assists for 15 points.

He opened with a hat trick against Marple, scored four times against Pottstown, added two goals against Philadelphia and then completed another hat trick in the Marple rematch.

That meant Conner recorded at least two goals in every game Saturday and had three separate performances with three or more goals.

Tom Russo — New Jersey Assault

With so much attention on Conner's goal scoring, Russo quietly assembled an exceptional day of his own.

Russo finished with six goals and five assists for 11 points.

He produced three points in the opener, four against Pottstown and closed the event with a second-half hat trick and an assist against Marple.

Trevor Cear — New Jersey Assault

Cear did his damage almost entirely as a distributor.

The Assault defenseman collected 10 assists in four games, including four against Pottstown and multiple helpers in both the opener and shutout of Philadelphia.

New Jersey scored 32 times during the event, and Cear was involved in nearly a third of them.

Cody Zajaczkowski, Luke Gross and PJ Breslow — Fusion Blizzard

Fusion's 3-1 afternoon featured remarkable balance at the top of its lineup.

Zajaczkowski, Gross and Breslow each finished with eight points.

Zajaczkowski totaled three goals and five assists, Gross produced five goals and three assists, and Breslow also finished with five goals and three helpers.

Breslow's biggest performance was his five-point game against Marple, while Zajaczkowski had four points in the 6-0 win over Pottstown.

Corey Kosick — SK Marple Gladiators

Marple's record did not reflect Kosick's individual performance.

The defenseman scored six goals and added an assist for seven points, including two goals in each of Marple's final two games.

His back-to-back shorthanded goals against Fusion nearly erased what had been a three-goal deficit.

Connor Ferrell — SK Marple Gladiators

Ferrell also produced consistently for Marple despite the difficult afternoon.

He totaled two goals and five assists for seven points, recording points in all four games and contributing multiple points in three of them.

Sean Lloyd — Philadelphia Barons

Lloyd powered Philadelphia's opening victory with a hat trick and an assist against Fusion.

He followed that with two assists in the victory over Marple, finishing the event with three goals and three assists.

Anthony Gizzi — New Jersey Assault

Gizzi handled all four Assault victories in goal and allowed just six goals over the entire event.

His afternoon included an eight-save shutout against Philadelphia, while New Jersey surrendered only one goal against Pottstown.

The combination of explosive offense and steady goaltending helped the Assault produce the day's most dominant team performance.

Dylan Sapienza — Fusion Blizzard

Sapienza's best performance came against Pottstown, when he turned aside all 13 shots in Fusion's 6-0 victory.

It was the second shutout recorded during the Yellow Breeches festival.

Assault Surges to the Top of the Mid-Atlantic Race

New Jersey entered Saturday at 3-1 through four games. Four regulation victories push the Assault to 7-1 and 21 standings points.

Philadelphia also reaches 21 points, but has now played 12 games and sits at 7-5 after splitting Saturday's schedule.

The idle New Jersey Jagaloons remain 5-2-1 with 15 points, while Fusion's 3-1 performance moves Blizzard to 4-2-2 with 13 points.

Marple falls to 4-8, while Pottstown now sits at 3-8-1 after its victory over Philadelphia.

The records are somewhat uneven because teams have played different numbers of events, but New Jersey Assault's position is impossible to miss: seven victories through its first eight games, with a significant portion of the schedule still ahead.

Entering Saturday, the Mid-Atlantic standings had the Jagaloons and Barons at 15 points, Marple at 12, Assault at nine, Pottstown at six and Fusion at four. Saturday's results dramatically reshuffled that picture.

A Dominant Day in New Cumberland

Every team entered Yellow Breeches with something to gain.

Philadelphia had an opportunity to build on its strong start.

Fusion was trying to capitalize on the overtime points it had collected earlier in the season.

Pottstown and Marple were looking to climb back toward the middle of the division.

New Jersey Assault simply took over.

The Assault won by scores of 8-2, 9-1, 7-0 and 8-3. New Jersey scored 32 goals, allowed six, recorded a shutout and never entered the final minutes of a game needing to protect a one-goal lead.

Even when Marple jumped ahead 3-1 in the final game, the Assault responded with seven straight goals.

It was as complete an event as any team could ask for — and it leaves the Mid-Atlantic Division with a very different look heading into the next stretch of the season.

Next Up: Metropolitan Division Heads to Rapid Fire

The Northeast Semi-Pro schedule continues Saturday, November 14, when the Metropolitan Division takes the floor at Rapid Fire Arena for its next in-division festival.

For the Mid-Atlantic teams leaving Yellow Breeches, Saturday represented another significant chunk of a 20-game regular season.

Fusion strengthened its position.

Pottstown picked up an important win.

Philadelphia split the afternoon.

Marple will look to regroup.

And New Jersey Assault leaves New Cumberland having made the loudest statement of all:

Four games. Four wins. Thirty-two goals.
