Minor Round Robin Closes with Upsets, Tiebreakers, and a Loaded Saturday Bracket

The final round of the PIHA Minor Division round robin wrapped up early Saturday morning, and it did exactly what a three-game sprint is designed to do—create chaos, force tiebreakers, and lock in a bracket where there are no soft landings.

Asheville handed Suffolk its first loss, Marple finally got into the win column, Steel City and Gainesville played a one-goal classic, and the field is now officially seeded for Saturday afternoon’s single-elimination quarterfinals. The winners move on to Saturday evening’s semifinals, with a best-of-three championship series waiting Sunday morning.

Final Round Robin Results

Asheville Aces 4, Suffolk Sting 2 (8:00am)

Asheville delivered one of the biggest results of the round robin, knocking off Suffolk to finish 2–1 and tighten the Group A seeding race. The win mattered twice—on the standings line and in the goal-differential tiebreaker that ultimately shaped the bracket.

Marple Gladiators 5, New Jersey Jagaloons (8:40am)

Marple closed round robin play on a high note, earning its first win of the weekend and avoiding the bottom seed in Group A. For the Jagaloons, the result completed an 0–3 round robin and placed them fourth in the group.

Steel City Shockwave 6, Gainesville Crocodiles 5 (9:20am)

Steel City and Gainesville gave everyone a preview of what elimination hockey could look like—back-and-forth scoring and a one-goal finish. The Shockwave’s win vaulted them into the #2 seed in Group B at 2–1, while Gainesville slides to #3 at 1–2, still very much alive but now facing a tougher quarterfinal draw.

Motor City Dirty Dawgs vs Mavin Tugboats (10:00am)
