Deuces storm past Grizzlies into East Finals

by Anthony Flynn

The top seeded Philadelphia Deuces have been a force all season.  Saturday's quarter-final round proved to be no different for the last place Grizzlies.  Game one got our of hand for the Grizzlies early and the Deuces continued to pounce, enroute to a 7-0 victory.  With the league's top winning goalie this season (Pat Coll) out of town and  starter Adrian Orio still recovering from injury, the Deuces tapped Ryan Ferrell to move from his role as a skater to the crease for the series.  Not an unimpressive start, earning a 7-0 shutout in game one.

Game two managed be a much tighter affair.  Although getting out to a quick 2-0 lead, the game tightened once the Grizzlies managed to get their first goal of the series.  A powerplay with just 3 minutes to go was the golden opportunity the Grizzlies needed to tie the game, but a good penalty kill proved to be the difference, as two late tallied secured the 4-1 series clinching win for the Deuces.

Up next will be a match up on Sunday, against the lowest remaining seed, after all the other quart-final series conclude.
