11/11 ISCA Recap (Semi-Pro)

by Anthony Flynn

Saturday was a huge day on the east coast for the semi-pro division.  All sixteen teams were in action in two separate cross-division festivals. The first of the two was held at Inline Skating Club of America where four Atlantic teams collided with four Northeast division teams in their only meetings of the season.

The Hershey Typhoon kicked off the day with a tilt against the Long Island Empire Snipers in one of the days best games.  Down 2-0 at the half, the Typhoon scored twice in the second half and then in overtime to take down the Northeast powerhouse.  The win would be the only of the day for the Hershey boys, but three of their four games were decided in overtime, including a double OT thriller with the Sting.

After losing in overtime in their first game, the Snipers went on to win a pair of 6-1 victories against both the Sting Rays and Iron Knights, before losing their final game to the Gladiators 2-1 in this season's lone rematch of last year's Semi-Pro final series.

The Suffolk Sting managed to earn points in every game played at ISCA on Saturday.  After losing their opening game of the day to the Iron Knights in overtime,  the Sting survived a crazy comeback effort against the Typhoon and would win on a powerplay in double overtime.  They then dropped another overtime game to the Gladiators, before finishing their day with a 5-2 victory over the Sting Rays.

The Iron Knights peaked right out of the gate on Saturday, beating the Sting in overtime and then followed it up with two tough losses against the Snipers (6-1) and Misfits (5-2).  They would finish on a positive, with a impressive 4-2 victory over the Flamingos.

The Sting Rays continued to their season struggle, losing all four games played.  Losses included the Snipers (6-1), Sting (5-2), Misifts (8-1), and to the Flamingos (10-1).

The Flamingos are proving once again, not to sleep on them, especially when Alex Parisi is in net.  Having had their struggles early with in division opponents, the Flamingos went 3-1 against the Atlantic teams on Saturday.  Opening the day with a 5-1 win against the Typhoon, they followed it up with their only loss of the day to the Iron Knights 4-2.  In their last two games they shocked the defending champions in a 1-0 win and then ended the day with a massive 10-1 blow out victory over the Sting Rays.

The Gladiators earned points in three of four games, which was a success considering they only had four regular skaters and four minor call ups.  The first was an overtime win against the Sting and then followed by a tight 2-1 victory against the Snipers in the rematch of last year's finals.  They then lost a goaltender's duel against the Flamingos in a 1-0 loss, followed by an overtime loss to the Misfits.

For the Misfits, it was not the start of the season they had hoped for, but as of late they have begun to gain momentum.  Saturday was yet another step in that direction.  The Misfits were the only team on Saturday on the entire east coast to win all four of their games.  THey defeated the Iron Knights 5-2 and followed it up with a 5-4 overtime victory against the Typhoon.  After another impressive 8-1 victory over the Sting Rays, they finished the day with another overtime victory over the Gladiators 6-5.
