11/04 Inman Recap (Minor)

by Anthony Flynn

Four Northeast division minor teams met at Inman Sports Complex for an in division event on Saturday.  Both Legends minor teams and the Flamingoes came to New Jersey for what amounted to a home event for the Grizzlies, although not at ISCA.  Six of Eight games were decided by 2 goals or less in another weekend of close margin minor league action.

In the first game of the day the Legends Black edged the Flamingos by just one goal in a 5-4 victory.  The Legends (Black) would go on to win each of their next three games; 3-1 win vs Grizzlies, 5-3 win vs Legends Gold, and a 3-0 shutout victory for goalie Josh Gilbert in the second game of the day against the Flamingos.

The Flamingos found themselves in every one of their games again, but managed just one victory.  After losing their opening game to the Legends Black 5-4, they earned a tough 3-1 victory over the Grizzlies, lost to Legends Gold 5-1 in the only lopsided game of the entire day, and finished with a 3-0 loss to the Black team.

Legends Gold started out the day with two victories, first beating the Grizzlies 4-3 in OT and then defeating the Flamingos 5-1.  In their final two games they wouldn't have the same success as they lost to their organization mates the Legends Black 5-3 and then lost to the Grizzlies 2-0 in their final game of the day.

The Grizzlies, who have gotten stronger with each event, once again showed promise.  Al though the net result of the day only gave them 3 points out of a possible 12, they proved competitive in each of their four games.  They began the day with an OT loss to the Legends Gold 4-3 and then followed it up with two back to back 3-1 losses to Legends Black and the Flamingos.  They did manage to end on a high note, as Bart Cambria posted a shutout in the Grizzlies 2-0 victory over the Legends Gold.
