The best of three semi-final series between the #2 seed Colorado Springs Thunder and the #3 Mile High Blizzard certainly didn't disappoint.  The series went the distance, after the Thunder won game won 4-3, the Blizzard battled back in game two with a 2-1 victory, and the Thunder prevailed to win the series late in game three 6-4.  The victory propels the Thunder into a head first collision with the defending PIHA Pro champion Denver Demon Dogs.  That series will take place at Parker Field House beginning at 8pm MST on Sunday evening March 3rd.

Game 1:  Colorado Springs Thunder Secures Victory Over Mile High Blizzard in a Thrilling Encounter

In a thrilling match-up that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Colorado Springs Thunder emerged victorious against the Mile High Blizzard, with a final score of 4-3. The game, which showcased both teams' offensive strengths and defensive strategies, was filled with action-packed moments, strategic plays, and a display of individual talent.

The first period was an intense battle, with the Colorado Springs Thunder taking an early lead thanks to CJ Yoder's exceptional goal at 10:25. However, the Mile High Blizzard quickly responded with Shaun Linger, assisted by Eric Buchholz, evening the score. The back-and-forth continued with the Thunder regaining the lead through Christian Perry's goal, which was beautifully set up by CJ Yoder and Eric Bogenrief. Cody Ayers extended the Thunder's lead with a power-play goal, but the Blizzard's Blake Davies closed the gap, ending the first period at 4-2.

The second period saw a more defensive approach from both teams, with the only goal coming from the Mile High Blizzard's Andrew Bond on a power play, making the score a close 4-3. Despite the Blizzard's efforts to tie the game, the Thunder managed to hold onto their lead, showcasing their defensive resilience.

Game 2: Mile High Blizzard Clenches Narrow Victory Over Colorado Springs Thunder

In a closely contested match, the Mile High Blizzard secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Colorado Springs Thunder in game two, demonstrating strategic gameplay and resilience. The game, characterized by its fierce competition and strategic depth, kept fans engaged until the final buzzer.

The Blizzard set the tone early in the first period, with Lance Scott, assisted by Blake Davies, finding the back of the net at 08:52, marking the game's first goal. Momentum continued for the Blizzard as Joey Dolce, with an assist from Ryan Wass-Tursick, doubled their lead to 2-0. The Thunder, not to be outdone, responded with a power-play goal from Christian Perry, assisted by Cody Ayers and Derrick Burnett, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

Despite a significant number of shots on goal from both teams, with the Thunder outshooting the Blizzard 21-11, the Blizzard's defensive strategies and goaltending proved to be the difference-maker, holding the Thunder to just one goal.

Penalties were a notable aspect of the game, affecting the flow and providing both teams with opportunities to capitalize on their power-play chances. The Blizzard faced several minor penalties, including high-sticking, roughing, and a bench minor for too many men on the ice. Similarly, the Thunder also found themselves penalized, notably with roughing minors that reflected the game's physicality.

Game 3:  Colorado Springs Thunder Rallies to Secure a Thrilling 6-4 Victory Against Mile High Blizzard

In a dramatic and action-packed game, the Colorado Springs Thunder rallied in the second period to secure a 6-4 victory over the Mile High Blizzard. The game, marked by a remarkable turnaround and strategic gameplay, kept fans riveted from start to finish.  

The match started off strong for the Thunder, with Georgie Barber, assisted by Eric Bogenrief, scoring the opening goal at 01:41 of the first period. The initial period saw the Thunder dominating shots on goal, 20 to 3, but with only one goal to show for their efforts.

The second period was a roller-coaster of emotions and scores. Mile High Blizzard's Austin Gipson, assisted by Justin Rudrow and Eric Buchholz, tied the game early in the period. The teams then exchanged goals, with Georgie Barber netting his second of the game, followed by goals from Mile High Blizzard's Lance Scott and Ryan Wass-Tursick, briefly giving the Blizzard the lead.

However, the Thunder's resilience shone through, with Derrick Burnett and CJ Yoder scoring to bring the game back to a tie. In the final minutes of the second period, Christian Perry emerged as the hero for the Thunder, scoring two quick goals, including the game-winner, with assists from Hunter Dymond, Georgie Barber, and Eric Bogenrief, sealing a 6-4 victory.

The game was not without its penalties, with Mile High Blizzard's Jeff Carlo and Blake Davies facing minor infractions for high-sticking and goalie interference, respectively. These moments of disadvantage did not deter the Blizzard but highlighted the game's intensity and physicality.

With a total of 30 shots on goal for the Thunder and 18 for the Blizzard, the game was a testament to both teams' offensive efforts and the goalkeepers' skills. The Thunder's ability to capitalize on their shot opportunities in the second period was the decisive factor in their comeback victory.
